Dallas Stars make blockbuster trade with boston Bruins

As people were firing off fireworks to celebrate our nation's 237th birthday yesterday, the Dallas Stars were firing off fireworks of their own as they announced a 7-player trade with the Boston Bruins. The Stars send forward Louis Eriksson along with prospects Reilly Smith, Matt Fraser, and Joe Morrow to Boston in exchanged for forward Tyler Seguin, center Rich Peverley, and defensemen Rich Button.

The three big names here are Eriksson, Seguin, and Peverley. Eriksson has averaged 30 goals and 70 points in the last few full seasons for the Stars. Seguin was not particularly good in the playoffs, but proved during the regular season he has star potential. Peverley is a veteran who is known for being good at faceoffs and will bring a veteran leadership to a young Stars team.

I'm not 100% sure I'm on board with this move. I'm not too worried about losing the prospects, but Eriksson has been one of the best young guys on the team. Boston just missed out on winning the Stanley Cup. They are hoping Eriksson will help push them over the top. As for the Stars...they hope that Seguin will help to improve their spotty defense. Under new coach Lindy Ruff, it's looking like the new Stars will be known for defense. If the old saying "offense scores points, defense
wins championships" is accurate, maybe this trade isn't too bad after all. We'll just have to wait and see.
