Adrian Beltre Not An All-Star??? Seriously???

The 2013 MLB All Star game is about a week away in New York City and, as always, is going to be a star-studded event. The following is the roster for the American League:

Starters
C: Joe Mauer, Twins
1B: Chris Davis, Orioles
2B: Robinson Cano, Yankees
SS: J.J. Hardy, Orioles
3B: Miguel Cabrera, Tigers
OF: Mike Trout, Angels
OF: Adam Jones, Orioles
OF: Jose Bautista, Blue Jays
DH: David Ortiz, Red Sox

Pitchers
RHP: Clay Buchholz, Red Sox
LHP: Brett Cecil, Blue Jays
RHP: Bartolo Colon, A's
RHP: Jesse Crain, White Sox
RHP: Yu Darvish, Rangers
RHP: Felix Hernandez, Mariners
RHP: Hisashi Iwakuma, Mariners
RHP: Justin Masterson, Indians
RHP: Joe Nathan, Rangers
LHP: Glen Perkins, Twins
RHP: Mariano Rivera, Yankees
LHP: Chris Sale, White Sox
RHP: Max Scherzer, Tigers
RHP: Justin Verlander, Tigers

Reserves
C: Jason Castro, Astros
C: Salvador Perez, Royals
1B: Prince Fielder, Tigers
2B: Jason Kipnis, Indians
2B: Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox
2B: Ben Zobrist, Rays
SS: Jhonny Peralta: Tigers
3B: Manny Machado, Orioles
OF: Nelson Cruz, Rangers
OF: Alex Gordon, Royals
OF: Torii Hunter, Tigers
DH: Edwin Encarnacion, Blue Jays

Now looking over this roster I have no problem with any of these guys being named to this team...except for three: Rays' Ben Zobrists, Tigers' Jhonny Peralta, and Tigers' Torii Hunter. I would like someone to explain to me how these three guys warranted an All Star roster spot over Rangers' third baseman Adrian Beltre. It's absurd and it's not right. Let's take a look at the numbers:

Adrian Beltre: .311, 18 home runs, 47 RBI
Ben Zobrists: .264, 6 home runs, 47 RBI
Jhonny Peralta: .304, 7 home runs, 42 RBI
Torii Hunter: .304, 6 home runs, 42 RBI

Beltre has a better batting average than any of the other three guys, he has hit one home run less than the three guys COMBINED, and only Ben Zobrists has as many RBI as Beltre. It's ridiculous to think that any one of these three guys deserved an All Star spot over Beltre. I understand that Zobrists is only on the All Star team due to the "every team has to be represented." But that rule is crap. There are teams who are so bad that they shouldn't have a player on the team. Jason Castro of the horrible Houston Astros is a prime example. If Zobrists deserves a shot, then why Castro should be left off the roster. Houston hasn't played well all season long and don't deserve to have an All Star. Tampa Bay hasn't played well either. So why do they have to be represented at the All Star game if they suck? That
doesn't make any sense to me. Because of a stupid rule put into place by Bud Selig, Beltre is being left off the AL roster for a guy who sucks yet is the best on his horrible team. Looking at Peralta and Hunter's numbers...I'll give you that they deserve an All Star roster spot. They have both played well this year. However...to put them on the team and NOT put Beltre on the team as well is a crying shame. Beltre has been the best third baseman all season long. I don't care that Miguel Cabrera
can hit the ball a mile. Beltre has the numbers and, defensively, has been the better player all season long. Machado from Baltimore is good. No doubt about it, but not better than Beltre.

I'm sure it will do Adrian Beltre good to be at home with his family and resting during the All Star break. And if he goes on a massive tear the second half of the season, then it will be worth it to leave him off the All Star team. But as a fan who loves watching the All Star game and who is a Texas Rangers fan, I believe Beltre was screwed out of a roster spot and it sucks.
